They were gathered for the inaugural summit of The Juggernaut, a digital South Asian news startup that launched in 2019. The Juggernaut spokesperson told BI that "multiple employees have equity in the company," but BI was unable to identify any such employees. "Twenty years ago, you might've struggled to mention a South Asian actor that you've seen in a movie," he said. As of January, the site had about 10,500 subscribers, Sur told investors in an email viewed by BI. Some feel that the publication has strayed from its mission of delivering "untold, smart South Asian stories and news you won't find anywhere else."

Jim thinks Google has lost focus as it struggles to shake off the narrative that it's lagging in the AI race. With all these things lining up against Google, Jim has been becoming increasingly wary of the stock. Discovery is delaying "Last Week Tonight" YouTube streaming to push viewers to Max. Every Sunday night, John Oliver hosts "Last Week Tonight" on cable TV. When it plays on YouTube, where HBO runs it without ads, it doesn't make any money. So hoping that making "Last Week Tonight" a little harder to see for free fits pretty easily into that pattern. AdvertisementThe move also runs counter to the way TV networks are treating comedy #content in general.

Its advantage wasn’t lost on Netflix cofounder and former CEO Reed Hastings, who’s namechecked YouTube as a threat to Netflix. YouTube has become a media giant without Hollywood contentMany in media dismiss or overlook YouTube because it doesn’t look like a Hollywood player. Its TV business, YouTube TV, is a bundle of other people’s channels. And YouTube TV is now the fourth-largest pay-TV service in the country, with more than 8 million subscribers. The real threat is that Netflix and YouTube dominate and everyone else fights over a tiny slice of pie.

YouTube bet big on the NFL to boost its subscriber base, and content creators have been key to that push. After YouTube committed $2 billion per year to secure the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, YouTube TV grew from 5 million subscribers in 2022 to more than 8 million this year. Enlisting some of YouTube's top creators to promote NFL Sunday Ticket helped drive engagement among tens of millions of users, the league said. A subscription to YouTube TV costs $73 per month, with an additional annual fee of $349 for access to NFL Sunday Ticket. YouTube TV enlisted familiar YouTube stars including lifestyle creators, vloggers and sports creators to attract new audiences to the NFL.

I've always been a gamer, but I never thought I could build a following by making skits about video games. But I transitioned to YouTube quickly because, for me and most creators, YouTube is the golden platform of sustainability. After I work with a brand, I'll add the people I worked with on LinkedIn. Aside from Disney, I've now worked with Amazon Prime, Netflix, and PlayStation on paid deals, and every single person that I've worked with or pretty much spoken to I've later added on LinkedIn.

YouTube TV is now the fourth-biggest pay TV service in the US. It's here now: Its YouTube TV offering has become one of the biggest pay-TV services in the US. YouTube TV — which, like conventional pay TV, sells a bundle of dozens of channels — now has "more than 8 million" subscribers, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced Tuesday morning. Now comes the other part of the equation: As YouTube TV has grown, conventional pay TV has shrunk. And it's partly because some pay TV providers — like Comcast — have stopped trying to convince customers to keep or get pay TV.

Surprise: Not every YouTuber edits their own videos. Often a behind-the-scenes gig, the lives and career paths of YouTube editors aren't as public as the stories behind the platform's stars. But like freelance work in media more broadly, many YouTube editors are still figuring out how to structure their payment rates and hours. And unlike in Hollywood where unions often dictate labor terms, YouTube editors are often on their own.
